The 29th week of pregnancy officially marks the beginning of the eighth month of your pregnancy. Your baby continues to be very active and is developing rapidly. A special appointment is coming up for you as an expectant mother: the third major ultrasound examination takes place from week 29 onwards, and you will be able to take another look at your baby.

In our pregnancy calendar for pregnancy week 29, you will find all the important information. We summarize how your baby develops this week and how size and weight change. At the same time, you will find out which physical changes you might observe as an expectant mom and which symptoms are typical now. In the process, we also introduce you to the innovative automatic baby hammock from swing2sleep

Development of your baby in week 29

You are now eight months pregnant and surely feel that the birth is getting closer and closer. Your baby now looks like a real little human and is developing rapidly. Their muscles are growing: your baby currently has a strong urge to move and often does gymnastics in your uterus. This stimulates muscle growth.

However, they don't have much space left in your belly. During the third trimester, your baby will adopt the fetal position due to the lack of space and pull their arms and legs towards their body. The chin tilts towards the chest.

At the same time, your baby is also building up fat reserves. This makes the skin increasingly taut and less wrinkled. The fat will help your baby maintain their body temperature after birth.

Your baby is now receiving more and more antibodies through your blood. Your baby's immune system trains its function from the third trimester onwards. After birth, your baby can use it to protect themselves from bacteria. In the first year of life, however, babies are still susceptible to illness and should not come into contact with sick people.

Size & weight in pregnancy week 29

Do you feel like your baby is getting heavier and heavier? This feeling is not deceiving you. Your baby gains a lot of weight in this and the coming weeks of your pregnancy. This is partly due to the fat pads your baby is putting on. The weight in week 29 is around 1,200 grams. Your baby is now gaining around 200 grams per week.

The size of your baby also changes in the 29th week of pregnancy. Your baby currently measures 38 to 40 centimeters. They are thus as big as a coconut or a butternut squash. The higher the birth weight of babies, the easier they manage the start in life. Especially in the case of premature births, weight is therefore of great importance.

There are likely eleven weeks left until your baby is born. You should use this time to take care of a cozy sleeping place for your baby. The automatic baby hammock from swing2sleep offers your baby a secure nest in which they feel completely comfortable. They lie snugly enclosed in the hammock and are protected from light and noise there. This promotes restful sleep.

How your body changes in week 29

In week 29, further physical changes are coming your way. Your baby is fast approaching their birth weight. Pregnancy becomes more arduous for you as a result. This will show particularly in everyday life, as your baby bump will soon restrict you. You may also notice stretch marks on your belly now.

Many mothers also report that the strong fetal movements can lead to discomfort. If your baby kicks your organs, it can sometimes be quite painful. If they hit your bladder, urine may even leak out.

Due to your pregnancy hormones, you have surely already noticed changes in your skin and hair. It is quite possible that your hair and fingernails are now growing faster than normal. Your pregnancy hormones are responsible for this.

These symptoms are typical in the 29th week of pregnancy

In the third trimester, the focus is also on your own weight gain. Your baby is growing: your belly continues to expand in parallel, and you are pushing a real ball in front of you. Due to your baby's growth, new symptoms and complaints can also occur for you:

women's legs with calf cramp

Calf cramps:

In the third trimester, you will probably have to deal with calf cramps every now and then. They can be triggered by a deficiency of magnesium, calcium, or potassium. At the same time, the heavier weight that your legs have to carry can also be the cause.

Back pain:

Your back now has an ever-increasing weight to carry. This can lead to back pain, which will likely accompany you in the coming weeks as well. Your changed posture can also favor back pain.

Heartburn & stomach pain:

Due to your baby's growth, the uterus presses on your stomach, your diaphragm, and other organs. This can lead to stomach pain and heartburn. Therefore, try to eat small meals instead of consuming one large portion.

Constipation:

Your hormones can cause your digestive tract to work differently than normal. Constipation is therefore not uncommon throughout pregnancy. Make sure to consume enough fiber and move around after eating.

Racing thoughts:

It is not uncommon for your thoughts to revolve only around your baby now. You want to set up the nursery, wash your baby clothes, and prepare everything for the birth. This makes it difficult for you to concentrate on your work.

These are just some of the symptoms that may accompany you at the moment. You may also suffer from water retention, which can be very unpleasant, especially in summer. Talk to your midwife or doctor if your symptoms become too severe or if you are worried.

If you feel a strong urge to set up the nursery, take a look at the automatic baby hammock from swing2sleep. The automatic baby hammock motor gently rocks your baby to sleep. The intensity of the movements is adapted to your baby's needs. This makes it easier for them to fall asleep and sleep through better.

Major check-up: The third ultrasound is due from week 29 onwards

You are surely excited in week 29: between week 29 and week 32, your third major ultrasound examination is due. Your doctor will take a look at your baby and check their size and weight. The circumference of the head as well as the length of the thigh bones and the abdomen are also measured. Your doctor also checks your baby's heartbeat and calculates the amount of amniotic fluid.

For expectant parents, this examination is a special appointment. You see your baby and already recognize the first details. If they move during the ultrasound, this can also be seen on the ultrasound. After the appointment, you will receive an ultrasound image on which your baby's face can also be seen. If possible, be sure to take your partner with you to this important appointment.
