Sometimes we receive messages in which the price of our swing2sleep automatic baby hammock is critically questioned. Some react with surprise. Some with skepticism. And yes, occasionally the words become significantly sharper.

We understand that. In a world where products seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper, a higher price quickly feels like a provocation. Especially in the field of baby supplies, many are used to mass-produced goods manufactured in huge quantities and at minimal production costs.

The swing2sleep deliberately does not belong in this category.

It is not a fast product that anonymously falls off an assembly line somewhere. It is the result of personal experience, technical development, countless tests, high safety standards, and a clear commitment to quality. Behind it stands no corporation, but a story—our own.

Of course, the swing2sleep is not a bargain. But it is a well-thought-out, tested, and responsibly produced product. And that is exactly why we can say with a clear conscience: It is worth its price.

Why this is so, how it all began, and why quality, safety, and responsibility have their price, is what we would like to explain to you transparently in the following article.

The swing2sleep: Too high or justified?

Time and again, it happens that customers are somewhat astonished that the swing2sleep has a rather proud price, or even insult us! Nowadays, where a large number of products are manufactured in China, this question is of course justified: Especially electronic products are often available for a pittance.

So why not the swing2sleep too? This has several reasons, which we would like to explain to you in the following. It is important to us that you understand why a product like the S2S hammock cannot be produced for just a few euros.

What often gets mixed up is the difference between "cheap" and "valuable". A low price usually results from high quantities, minimal material costs, and standardized processes. A valuable product, on the other hand, is created through development, testing, safety checks, responsibility, and genuine conviction.

The S2S is not a mass-market item designed for millions of households. It is aimed at a very specific situation: parents who are reaching their limits. And exactly this specialization brings different requirements—technically, organizationally, and humanly.

So it's not just about the material of a hammock. It's about development, safety, responsibility, and long-term quality. And all of that has its price.

The idea behind our swing2sleep – how it began

Some ideas are not born at a desk. They arise from exhaustion. From despair. And from the wish that things somehow have to get better.

Our daughter, now almost an adult, was a colicky baby. Anyone who has experienced this themselves knows what it means. It is not a phase that you get through with a little patience. It is a state of emergency.

Everyday life looked something like this:

  • Mom was under constant stress.
  • Dad was under constant stress.
  • Sleep became a scarce commodity.
  • Conversations only revolved around surviving the day.
  • A relaxed family life was out of the question.

Parents with colicky babies try everything. Really everything. Carrying, breastfeeding, driving, singing, walking. In our case, at least a small glimmer of hope appeared: Our daughter responded to rocking. As soon as we rocked her, she became calmer. Sometimes she even fell asleep.

But who can rock their baby in their arms for hours?

What initially sounded like a solution became a physical burden. On the exercise ball, gentle rocking eventually turned into almost shaking out of pure exhaustion. The consequences: a herniated disc and total sleep deprivation.

And then came that moment that many parents know, but hardly anyone speaks openly about: I caught myself thinking about shaking my child too hard out of frustration and despair.

Fortunately, it remained just a thought. Because the consequences of shaking a baby can be devastating, leading even to permanent brain damage.

At exactly this point, it became clear to us: There had to be another solution.

A solution was born out of the fear of baby shaking

Exactly this one moment became our motivation. No father. No mother. No one should ever get into the situation of shaking their own baby too hard out of pure overwhelm, with potentially lifelong consequences. So-called Shaken Baby Syndrome is real. And it does not arise from malice, but from exhaustion.

We knew: Rocking helps. Our daughter showed us every day. But as long as we were the "motors" ourselves, the problem remained. You cannot rock an infant in your arms for hours without reaching physical and mental limits.

And then came this thought: If we have to function as motors, why not use a real motor?

With this simple, almost obvious thought, the idea of an automatic rocking hammock was born. A cradle that swings evenly, gently, and reliably – without parents having to keep going until total exhaustion.

What sounded logical in theory turned out to be a long road in practice.

Developing a product means:

  • finding technical solutions
  • guaranteeing safety
  • meeting standards and requirements
  • building and discarding prototypes
  • investing without knowing if it will work

You don't just dive into the deep end. You jump straight into the shark tank.

And yet it became clear early on that we were not alone with our experience. Doctors, midwives, and pediatric nurses reacted positively to the idea. Especially for colicky babies, many experts saw great potential.

We also received feedback from parents that confirmed: The basic idea was right. But a good idea alone does not sustain a company. And we had to learn that the hard way.

Small family business versus large corporation

One thing must not be forgotten: We are, fortunately or perhaps also to our disadvantage, not a large corporation with a marketing department, legal department, and million-dollar budget. Behind S2S is not an anonymous company, but a small family business.

Specifically, this means: no huge production volumes, no aggressive advertising campaigns, no economies of scale that artificially push down the price. We do not produce in millions. We plan carefully, calculate cautiously, and invest with consideration.

I myself, the owner, still have a regular job. The swing2sleep is not a soulless side project, but a passion project. Much of it is created in the evenings, on weekends, between family life and obligations. Not because it is convenient, but because we are convinced of the idea.

A small business also means:

  • direct contact with our customers
  • personal responsibility for every single product
  • fast, human solutions instead of standardized answers
  • decisions based on conviction instead of pressure for returns

Of course, some things would be easier with a big investor behind us. But an investor expects growth, scaling, and margin maximization. We, on the other hand, want one thing above all: to help.

Yes, it's true. Quite a few people around us initially thought the idea was crazy. A motorized hanging cradle for a relatively small target group? Economically risky. Emotionally driven. Perhaps naive.

But sometimes meaningful things are created exactly where passion is stronger than calculation. And that is exactly why swing2sleep is what it is: not a mass-produced product, but a well-thought-out solution from parents for parents.

The response speaks for itself

The response we have been able to experience from our customers over the past decade and a half speaks a clear language: happy babies who are finally slumbering gently again, and parents who are overjoyed to finally get some peace and quiet.

We ourselves are 100% convinced of our product, otherwise we would hardly invest so much time and money in it. I am even convinced that babies don't actually suffer from colic, but simply need to be rocked gently.

In the vast majority of cases, that is enough to calm them down. But it is simply impossible to rock a baby by hand for a long period of time. So we needed a swing that did this all by itself.

Our S2S rocks in an individually selectable mode for as long as the parents or their baby wish. Thanks to a timer, the rocking duration can also be selected.

Furthermore, the swing2sleep does not just work with a single motor, because the rocking would then be far too jerky. Instead, a total of 3 motors are built into our drive unit. In addition, it has a pre-tensioned spring (so please do not open it!), which ensures gentle and jerk-free rocking.

swing2sleep price: Why quality has its value

Anyone who believes that making money automatically begins with a good idea is mistaken. At the beginning, there is not profit, but investment. Before a single cradle is sold, significant costs are already incurred.

These include, among others:

  • Proprietary rights and patent applications
  • Safety tests and certifications
  • Technical development and prototype construction
  • Tooling and production preparation
  • Legal protection

These steps alone can quickly reach a six-figure sum. And in Germany, the requirements for safety and product liability are particularly high, especially for products for babies. That is a good thing. But it also means: every development error can be expensive.

A bank loan? Not a given. For people who have never been confronted with a high-need baby, the idea of a motorized hanging cradle initially sounded more unusual than revolutionary. So there was only one way for us: invest ourselves. With our own capital, our own time, and a significant personal risk.

But the investments do not end with the market launch. Customers rightly expect more than just a functioning product.

They expect:

  • certified safety
  • durable quality
  • sustainable materials
  • reliable service
  • accommodating solutions in case of problems

All of this is a matter of course for us. And all of this is part of what is reflected in the price. It's not just about a cradle. It's about development, responsibility, and long-term reliability.

Quality has its price! And our standards are high

Our own standard is clear: We don't just want to offer a first-class product, but also want our customers (and of course the babies) to be happy and satisfied with the S2S and with us.

The success of the first years, in which we really only offered the product on a very small scale, proved us right and was also an incentive for us to continue in exactly the same way.

It is simply a wonderful feeling to talk to parents on the phone who report with great joy how their relationship with their baby, and even their entire family life, has changed for the better thanks to the hanging cradle.

From the very beginning, this gave us the certainty that we were doing something meaningful and motivated us to keep going! We no longer want to do without this closeness to our customers.

Making big money with the automatic baby hammock? Admittedly: That would be nice. It would be hypocritical to claim that we didn't wish we were financially set for life. But it is much more important to us that we have brought something truly good into the world with swing2sleep.

We see it as a product that enables parents to escape the downward spiral with a high-need baby and see light at the end of the tunnel again. After all, life with a newborn is supposed to be something wonderful.

It is such a shame when neither parents nor child can enjoy this time because the baby cries and cries. We hope that all parents of high-need babies are helped permanently so that they can enjoy their parental leave and it is possible for them to grow together into a happy little family.

swing2sleep price: Quality over quantity

Perhaps it is madness to invest so much heart and soul and money into a product that will probably never be, or should never be, a mass-market product. But we draw so much energy and joy from being able to help new parents.

And that is exactly why we keep going despite all the resistance. And it's true: swing2sleep has its price, precisely because it is not a mass-market product, but addresses a small target group and has to fulfill many requirements.

In return, however, you are offered a great deal. Thanks to many years of constant tinkering and improvement, thanks to attention to detail and perfectionism, and thanks to our concern for you and your children, you can be sure of receiving a well-thought-out and mature product that complies 100% with all safety regulations.

Our service is also something to be proud of, because our customers are not numbers, but people with a story. And you can purchase swing2sleep with a clear conscience, because we try to act as ecologically and ethically as possible throughout our entire supply chain.

Nevertheless, swing2sleep is a high-priced product, even if a peacefully sleeping child is priceless. We know that many people have to watch every penny.

That is exactly why we introduced rentals right from the start. We don't want a child to suffer because swing2sleep seems too expensive. With a rental price of 4.08 euros per day, we make it accessible without a high deposit. In this way, we want to pave the way for families to find more peace and satisfaction, so that no baby is shaken out of desperation.

PS: Initially, we didn't sell the automatic baby hammock at all. We only introduced this over the years due to many customer requests.
